MT. JULIET, Tenn. – One person was injured in a three-car crash on Interstate 40 in Wilson County. Two of the vehicles ended upside down.

Eastbound I-40 was shut at the exit to Mt. Juliet Road around 8:25 p.m. Thursday while crews worked to clear the scene.

The crash happened around mile marker 227. Traffic was slowing as vehicles entered a construction area. Officials said an inattentive driver did not see traffic slowing and rear-ended another vehicle.

Both vehicles rolled over. A third vehicle was also struck.

Sgt. Tyler Chandler with the Mt. Juliet Police Department said two people were hurt. One was transported to Vanderbilt Univeristy Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The other person suffered minor injuries.

All four westbound lanes were closed at the Mt. Juliet Road exit. Officials with the Tennessee Department of Transportation said westbound lanes were  also slow due to rubbernecking delays.

The scene roadway was reopened shortly after 9:40 p.m.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
