Ex-Football Player Pleads Guilty To Sex With 12-Year-Old

COLUMBIA, Tenn. - A former star high school quarterback in Maury County pleaded guilty to facilitation of child rape and received probation for having sex with a 12-year-old girl.

The Daily Herald in Columbia reported 19-year-old Princeton Harlan, who was a senior at Mt. Pleasant High School at the time of the offense, received a 10-year suspended sentence during Circuit Court on Tuesday and his name will be added to the state's sex offender registry.

He was arrested at the school last October and initially charged with child rape.

Two of Harlan's teammates, a 17-year-old and 16-year-old, were also charged. Their cases were later moved from juvenile court to Circuit Court.

Police said the sex was not forcible and the three players were charged because of the girl's age.

When Harlan was arrested in October officials said whether the sex was forced or not was irrelevant in the eyes of the law.

"Anytime somebody under the age of 13 has sex, it is considered rape of a child. The girl in the case went to her biological mother and told her she thought she was pregnant. That's what started us investigating the case," said Anthony Bailey with the Maury County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives said the 12-year-old became pregnant after all three teens had consensual sex with her on separate occasions.

Harlan had been mentioned as a prospective recruit for several college football programs, including Vanderbilt, Auburn, and Mississippi State.
