Posted: Updated:

SUMMITVILLE, Tenn. – Homicide detectives were called out to an old rock quarry in Coffee County after a woman's body was found.

The woman was found dead around 1 p.m. Saturday inside a quarry near Summitville, about 10 miles northeast of Manchester near where Summitville road and Fire Tower Road meet.

Coffee County Sheriff Steve Graves said it appeared the woman was murdered. They were still in the preliminary stages of the investigation.

Agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the medical examiner's office were called to the scene.

Graves said there was a large area in the middle of the quarry that had to be processed and it could be Sunday morning until the body was removed.
