NASHVILLE, Tenn.- It's a
debate that's been going on Capitol Hill since last summer about expanding
Medicaid in Tennessee under the Affordable Care Act. Saturday, supporters of
low-income workers met to show their support for expansion. They say expansion
would benefit nearly 300,000 working Tennesseans who still live below or near
the poverty line.
The Nashville Chamber of
Commerce is one of the supporters. It believes it not only helps workers but
businesses as well.
"The affordable care
act and the expansion of Medicaid will bring with it billions of dollars to
Tennessee which will result in job creation and help to defray some of those
cuts that will be planned for our healthcare industry if we were not to expand
in Tennessee," said Adam Lester, Nashville Chamber of Commerce.
Governor Haslam hasn't
made his decision yet, but told reporters this week he'd have one by the end of
the month.
Those against expansion
will make their voices heard Sunday. A rally is planned on the steps of Capitol
Hill in Nashville starting at 1:00 pm.
