NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A new survey from Travel and Leisure Magazine said Nashville has the fourth-most charming accent in the nation.
The magazine classified Nashville's accent as friendly and welcoming, putting it near the top of the list.
Linguistics professors in Nashville said the city's Country music background may have a lot to do with why the Nashville accent is considered so special. They said speaking the same way is part of developing a common bond.
"People tend to talk a certain way as a way of showing their affiliation to that group," said Ric Morris, a linguistics professor from Middle Tennessee State University. "There are certain aspects the group members seize upon to emphasize."
