NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Nearly three years since the devastating flood of 2010, residents of some local communities said they're still on the road to recovery. One of the hardest hit areas, Bordeaux, will soon be getting a major new development.
Developers have announced plans to build a new apartment complex. The $9.5 Million project will stand a short distance from where floodwaters washed out homes in Bordeaux. It will include 66 units of two and three bedroom apartments.
Rent has been set at between $599 and $675 per month, and applicants must make 50 to 60 percent of the median income to qualify.
"Not only did we have a great property that was available; we have a Kroger in front of us and the Bordeaux library, but in addition to accommodate 18 buildings, we also have a need," said Fifth Third Bank Assistant Vice President Amanda Sluss.
Fifth Third Bank is funding the Hallmark Station project that was estimated to be complete by October or November.
Some in the community expressed skepticism about the project.
"I think if it's people who lost their homes then ok, but if they're just going to let anybody move into those houses over there, I don't … I would say no," said Sherry Bryant, who lives nearby.
Others said they're ready to rebuild.
"It'll be something new and something different. Maybe I can move in over there because you say affordable housing," said Jameica Crook.
The project was expected to be complete sometime in October or November, and the property managers were expected to begin taking applications just a short time before that.
