NASHVILLE, Tenn. – An elementary school south of downtown Nashville was placed on lockdown Wednesday afternoon after a homeowner caught several burglars in the act.
Napier Elementary on Fairfield Avenue, just off Lafayette Street, was placed on lockdown just before noon Wednesday.
The lockdown is a precautionary measure to keep the students inside while police investigate the robbery.
The robbery happened on Decatur Street. The man who lives at the home received a phone call from his security company about an alarm going off in his home. He told NewsChannel 5 he went home and found several people who had broken into the home. A man was inside the home attempting to steal a television, but dropped it in the backyard when the homeowner came home.
He told police that four to five men took off running from the home.
The homeowner told NewsChannel 5 that his television had been stolen a couple of weeks ago, and he had just replaced it with the one the burglars tried to steal.
No injuries were reported.
