10-Month-Old Killed In Accidental Shooting At Donelson Hotel
HERMITAGE, Tenn. – Police said the fatal shooting of a 10-month-old child at a hotel in Donelson on Thursday night was not an intentional act.
Officers were called to the Extended Stay America in Donelson around 6:40 p.m. They said 10-month-old Adam Bass was shot and killed by his father 30-year-old Larry Bass.
Hermitage Precinct Detectives were on the scene within minutes and found the baby with a gunshot wound to the chest. After they attempted to revive the child several times, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives said Adam's father was handling his semi-automatic pistol inside the family's hotel room when it discharged accidentally.
Police said Bass' wife and their two other sons, who are ages 3 and 2, were also in the room at the time of the incident. No one else was injured.
The family is from Texas, and had been living at the hotel while Bass, who is an iron worker, was in town working at the Music City Center site.
Police have not said if any charges will be filed against Bass.
