DICKSON COUNTY, Tenn. - Rescuers in Dickson County spent the better part of an hour on Saturday night rescuing a man who became trapped in a cave 100ft. off the ground.
"Our biggest concern was it getting dark. It's very hard to work at dark," explained Brandon Wilkerson with Dickson County Search and Rescue.
Friends of the man who was trapped identified him as 40-year-old Tommy Powell from Murfreesboro. He'd gone over to the rock face to explore some caves when he slipped and became stuck with no way up or down.
"He was out caving and climbing, just enjoying the weather we had over the past couple of days, he seen a cave with some buzzards and wanted to go in there and check it out," said Wilkerson.
To get Powell down safely, crews had to repel down from the top of the cliff and secure him into a harness. After being stuck on the cliff for almost 3 hours, he was rescued in just under an hour.
"No injuries everything was fine. He was actually just sitting up there chilling out talking to everybody down here, some of his buddies were kind of laughing at him up there but we did get him down safely."
