Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nashville Electric Service crews had to replace a utility pole after a car crashed into it overnight.

Police said the driver swerved off the road on Murfreesboro Pike, outside the Drake Motel, around 2 a.m. Monday and hit the pole. The pole snapped in half, knocking out power to about 1,100 people in the area for several hours.

The driver was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Police believe alcohol was involved, but continued to investigate.
