NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lightning may have caused a fire that damaged a home in Madison on Monday morning.

The fire broke out just before 10 a.m. Monday in the 400 block of Due West Avenue at Saunders Avenue. Heavy smoke and fire were reported.

The residents said they heard a small explosion, and then smelled smoke in the attic. They escaped the home, and called 911.

No one was hurt.

Damage was contained to the attic, but there was some roof damage.

Investigators will try to determine if it was lightning that started the fire.
