Posted: Updated:

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Tenn. - A woman has been rescued after being trapped in a cave in Van Buren County for several hours. Rescue crews pulled the woman free just after 11:00 p.m. Saturday night.

The woman was about 1,000 feet into the Fox Hole Cave near Spencer Saturday afternoon, when she fell about 40-feet and became trapped.  She was there spelunking with a small group of people.

After being pulled free, crews transported the woman to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga for treatment. The woman's name was not immediately released, and the extent of any injuries was not clear.

Before she was able to get out of the cave, rescue crews were able to get medication to her. Crews from Van Buren, Putnam, and Hamilton Counties assisted in the rescue.

Fox Hole Cave is on the north end of Van Buren County off Highway 111, about two miles from the White County line.
