Mt. Juliet Chooses First Liquor Store Applicants

Posted: Updated:

MT. JULIET, Tenn - City commissioners in Mt. Juliet voted Monday night to chose two applicants for the city's first permits for liquor stores. The applicants chosen were Providence Wine and Spirits and Mt. Juliet Wine and Spirits.

Providence Wine and Spirits will be owned by Kenneth Powers and will be located in the Providence West development. Mt. Juliet Wine and Spirits is owned by Bill Robinson and his two sons, Chris and Michael. The store is located near the intersection of Lebanon Road and Mt. Juliet Road.

Voters decided in last November's general election to allow wine and spirit stores into a city where residents can currently only buy liquor drinks at bars and restaurants.

"There's very few businesses that require a special vote," explained Mt. Juliet City Manager Kenny Martin on Monday.

The city was flooded with applications by potential liquor store owners. As of Monday afternoon there were 11 potential applicants.

Martin said the process of choosing who got the permits was like picking a job applicant.

"If you look at it like a job resume where somebody had a applied for a job and one person says 'here's what I'm bringing to the table' and you're looking at the credentials of a few different parties," he added.
