School Custodian Arrested, Accused Of Inappropriately Touching Student

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Rutherford County Schools terminated a middle school custodian after he allegedly inappropriately touched a 13-year-old student.

The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office said 51-year-old Ronald E. Lewis was charged Wednesday with one count of offensive and provocative touching.

Lewis was accused of repeatedly sending text messages to the young student at Whitworth Buchanan Middle School.

The district fired Lewis on March 20 before the criminal investigation was completed due to the inappropriate nature of engaging a student through text messages.

Investigators said Lewis texted the student from December through March without the permission from her parents.

School Resource Officer Sergeant Mickey McCullough said Lewis "asked the female if he could be her boyfriend," and told the student she was "beautiful, he loved her and she was fine."

Detectives said Lewis told the young girl not to tell anyone about the messages and if she told police, he would go to jail.

Sgt. McCullough took possession of the student's phone and continued to engage in text messages with Lewis.

Lewis was charged and booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.

A hearing was set for April 15 in General Sessions Court.
