Mayor Dean To Lead Community Book Discussion

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Nashville Mayor Karl Dean will lead a community discussion of the bestselling book, "Life of Pi," as a part of a citywide campaign to encourage reading among the city's youths.

For the second year, the Nashville Reads program selects a book for the community to read at the same time and hosts book discussions and other events centered on the book. Dean on Thursday will lead a discussion of the book at the Bongo Java coffee shop.

The campaign runs through April 13. "Life of Pi" author Yann Martel visited Nashville earlier this month to give a lecture. The book is about an Indian boy's struggles to survive while lost at sea with a tiger and was adapted into an award-winning movie last year by director Ang Lee.
