NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Music City is turning its attention to fashion and local designers, as Fashion Week kicks off.

In it's third year, the event will feature more designers than ever before.  Organizers say that's a credit to the city's growing fashion scene.

"I think because Nashville is an ‘it city' right now," said Fashion Week Co-Founder Marcia Masulla. "When I'm picking up the phone to call designers, I don't have to try that hard to get them to come down.  Many call us."

Masulla said the event isn't trying to be like Fashion Week in New York or Paris.  Instead, it is a great way to highlight local designers, and show the community another side of the city's creativity.

"We take care of our own," said Masulla.  "We have nothing but respect for them.  We want to encourage them."

Jeff Garner, has been working as a fashion designer for 12 years.  The Franklin native, and Lipscomb Academy graduate said it's great to see the city turning the spotlight on fashion.

"I love being back here and seeing how everyone's open to the creative arts," said Garner.  " I love what they're doing, and the up and coming designers are moving forward."

Garner showcased his collection inspired by Princess Grace of Monaco at a special show at Lipscomb University's Longview Mansion.  The collection is part of his Prophetik label, and were originally shown in Monaco in September.

"I wanted to do this show right before Fashion Week to help with the energy, and that kind of thing," said Garner.

As a 12 year veteran of the fashion industry, Garner said it's great to see a new generation of talent coming from Nashville.  Fashion Week organizers hope the event will continue to inspire others.
