NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Songwriters played to a capacity crowd at The Listening Room Cafe in Nashville Friday night as the Tin Pan South songwriters festival continued.

Tin Pan South has put some of the best songwriters in the world on stage to perform the songs they created.

"It's an in-the-round situation, which means that you have four different people on stage and each takes a turn singing," said Susan Myers from the festival.

The songwriters look forward to the chance to share with the audience what so many fans never get a chance to witness.

"It's our people man. It's songwriters, it's Nashville. I think one of our greatest exports are songs," said songwriter Tommy Sims.

Tin Pan South gives songwriters a chance to connect with the audience, and explain the journey their song has taken on its way to becoming a hit.

"If you can imagine sitting on the floor and we're just kind of dreaming it forward, like praying if we write it, maybe it'll happen," said Kristian Bush from Sugarland.

He performed the song "Baby Girl" that he and his musical partner Jennifer Nettles wrote. It became Sugarland's first hit.

It is that glimpse into the musical inner-circle that has made Tin Pan South the world's premier songwriting festival.

"When you hear the song, and you hear the story behind the song, then you also take your interpretation and what that meant to you and it brings it to a whole new level," according to Myers.

Tin Pan South shows can be seen in ten venues across Nashville. The festival closes Saturday night.
