First Lady Michelle Obama To Speak At MLK's Graduation

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – First Lady Michelle Obama will be the commencement speaker at Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet School's graduation.

Principal Schunn Turner made the announcement to students on Thursday morning. The students stood up and cheered after the First Lady announced her plans in a video from the White House.

The school found out last week that their application for the opportunity had been accepted.

"We are very excited Mrs. Obama is coming to our graduation," said Turner. "This will be the event of a lifetime not only because it is the only high school graduation our seniors will have, but also because we will share the celebration with the First Lady."

MLK's graduation is scheduled for Saturday, May 18. No public tickets will be available.

Mrs. Obama has been to Nashville several times since President Barack Obama took office. Most recently she was in Nashville to speak at the general conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church last June.
