Utility Pole Catches Fire, Hundreds Lose Power

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A utility pole caught fire early Thursday morning in south Nashville, knocking out power to hundreds of people.

It started around 4 a.m. on Antioch Pike, at Candy Lane. The pole remained on fire for nearly two hours and snapped in half due to the flames and heat. Crews were unable use water to put it out due to the live power lines.

Traffic was slowed along Antioch Pike, with at least one lane closed.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

At its highest point, Nashville Electric Service said more than 1,100 people were without power. NES said about 14 commercial customers will be without power until Thursday night due to the fire.
