Black Squad Beats Gold In Vanderbilt Spring Game

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Carey Spear kicked a 25-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Black squad past the Gold for a 17-15 victory Saturday in Vanderbilt's game wrapping up spring practice.

Austyn Carta-Samuels completed 14 of 20 passes for 196 yards and a touchdown. He also orchestrated the game-winning 12-play, 67-yard drive, which included a 44-yard pass to Chris Boyd on 4th and 25.

Running back Wesley Tate and wide receiver Jordan Matthews each scored touchdowns to boost the Black to a 14-0 lead.

Freshman quarterbacks Patton Robinette and Johnny McCrary each threw touchdowns to rally the Gold in the fourth quarter. McCrary connected with Tip McKenzie for a 40-yard score and the two hooked up for the ensuing two-point conversion for a 15-14 lead with 4:40 left.
