Suitcase Evacuates Part Of Downtown Nashville

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A suitcase shut down part of downtown Nashville late Tuesday night.

An alert citizen called police about a suspicious package in the 100 block of Church Street around 11 p.m. Officers arrived to find a black rolling travel bag attached to a lamp post by a cable lock.

Officers set up a perimeter and began to evacuate the businesses in the area, including Riverfront Tavern, Hooters, and the Beer Sellar. The Hazardous Device Unit responded and found the bag did not contain any hazardous material, only clothes.

Businesses were allowed to reopen a short time later.
