HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. – Two people were killed and one person was injured when a wall fell on top of them at a construction site in Hendersonville on Thursday morning.

A 25-foot high wall collapsed on top of three people at a site off Indian Lake Boulevard in Hendersonville around 10 a.m. Hendersonville firefighters tried to save two people trapped under the wall by using sledgehammers to break up the concrete. Police said it took them about 45 minutes to recover the bodies.

Police identified the deceased as 24-year-old Joel Muniz, of Nashville, and 37-year-old Jose Velasco-Sanagustin, of Bethpage. The surviving victim, 44-year-old Jeff Costello, of Scottsville, Kentucky, was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Hendersonville Police were looking into all factors, including whether high winds could have played a role.

The general contractor was Solomon Builders. The building will be a Goodwill store.

The site is near the Hendersonville campus for Union University.
