Walk Raises Awareness About Sexual Violence

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Hundreds of people hit the pavement on Saturday to bring awareness to an important cause. The Sexual Assault Center in Nashville held it's 12th annual "Walk In Their Shoes" event.

The walk through Metro Center was aimed at raising awareness about the prevalence of sexual violence in the community, while also honoring those who have survived it.

"The special thing about the Sexual Assault Center is that when you donate, you know exactly where your money is going," said organizer Dede Darden. "It's going to the counseling services for these sexual assault survivors. So we're really proud and we're really excited about today."

The center has provided services for Middle Tennessee since 1978 and has counseled more than 17,000 children and adults.
