Man Arrested After Meth-Making Materials Found In Motel Room

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A housekeeper at a local motel made a frightening discovery Sunday morning. She found materials used to make meth.

It happened at the Hallmark Inn on Trinity Lane, just northeast of downtown Nashville.

Police said the housekeeper went into a room and found a man asleep on the bed along with some household items that can be used to make meth. Her eyes started burning because of ammonia in the room.

The hotel called police and the man in the room was taken into custody. He was identified as Michael Smith. A hazmat team was sent into the room and nearby guests were evacuated. The housekeeper and members of the front office staff were decontaminated.

Police did not find any meth product in the room and there was no evidence of cooking meth, only ingredients used to make it.

"I think that the potential was there," said Captain Kay Lockey with Metro Police. "It's a volatile situation when you have the ingredients that go into meth."

Police plan to file charges against Smith in the next day or two.
