Thousands Walk In Music City To Support March Of Dimes

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- There was a large turnout on Sunday for the 75th annual March of Dimes' March for Babies.

The 2-mile walk raises money to support prenatal wellness programs, research grants and NICU support for families. Each week in Tennessee, 240 babies are born prematurely. That's 1 in 8.

Organizers said donations raised by walks like the March for Babies help ensure that number will go down.

One team from Meharry Medical College was part of the big walk.

"As medical students, we support anything medically involved, so it was very important to us," said Eddie Hackler, Meharry Medical Team member. "This is something we all want to do in some aspect. We know premature babies are born all the time and we know how much this means to everyone."

The March of Dimes event is the nation's oldest walk fundraiser honoring babies.
