Exotic Pet Expo Held At State Fairgrounds

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Creepy crawlers and colorful birds were on display at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds on Sunday. It was for the first-ever Exotic Pet Expo.

Dozens of vendors featured every kind of exotic animal you could imagine from birds of every color to reptiles and even a 150-pound tortoise. Several animals were up for sale, but organizers said the main purpose of the event was education.

"It's also to preserve the animals and teach people how to take care of them and tell them what they can and cannot have in the state of Tennessee because there are illegal exotics in Tennessee," said event organizer Cin Lofton.

Vendors said they had such a problem with people abandoning exotic animals they've started a rescue group here in Nashville.
