Clarksville Police Say Scammers Making False Calls

Posted: Updated:

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Clarksville Police are warning residents about scammers making false calls.

Officials said the scammers claim to be members of the law enforcement community, and then tell the person on the phone that a warrant has been issued for their arrest.

The scam artist goes on to say the victim can get out of being taken into custody if they make a payment or pay their "bond" over the phone.

Clarksville Police wants to get the word out, saying this is not standard operating procedure. They said they do not accept payments or bond in lieu of being taken into custody because the Clarksville Police Department doesn't have a Holding Facility.

Police said they have not received any reports of anyone falling victim to the scam.
