NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Family, friends and musicians united in an effort to support a local woman who was critically injured after being hit by a drunk driver.

Theresa Lawton was on her way to church in Madison on Jan. 30, 2013 when she was hit by a Chevy Suburban on East Marthona Road.  She suffered from a traumatic brain injury and has a long road to recovery ahead.

Grammy Award Winner Jason Crabb, country music singers Julie Roberts, and Bucky Covington, along with several hit songwriters headlined the concert at Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville in downtown Nashville.

"Music is so healing and it encourages people to come out and give," said singer Jason Crabb.  "They love music and we're glad to be a part of this."

The event also included a silent auction.  All money raised will go directly to help with Theresa's medical bills.

"It really is rewarding to see how many wonderful people she has in her life," said Amber McDonald, Theresa's daughter.  "We've seen complete strangers who were inspired to come out and give."

Theresa has been out of the hospital for about a week, and continues regular speech and physical therapy.  Doctors tell her family it is hard to know how long it will take for her to make a full recovery.  She was able to attend the benefit to enjoy the music.

"I just can't believe all these people," said Theresa Lawton.  "It really means a lot to see everyone here."

The driver of the car that hit her, 43-year-old Gregory Capps, was charged with felony vehicular assault and driving on a revoked license.

The family is also accepting donations for Theresa through an account that can be accessed at any Pinnacle Bank location.
