COLUMBIA, Tenn. – The parents of a toddler found wandering in Columbia on Thursday morning have been located.

Police were talking with the parents to determine what led up to the child, who was estimated to be about two years old, being found alone on East 8th Street sometime around 7:30 a.m.

Sources told NewsChannel 5 that the mother was asleep. Police had gone door-to-door searching for the child's parents, and the Columbia Daily Herald reported a resident recognized the child and took officers to his home on Mapleash Avenue around 11 a.m.

The boy was transported to the custody of the Department of Children's Services.
