Runners Continue To Pick Up Packets For Marathon

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – On Friday, thousands of runners were picking up their race bibs and gear for Saturday's Country Music Marathon.

More than 30,000 people are expected to take part in the 14th annual marathon and half marathon that start at 7 a.m. Saturday.

In addition to bibs and gear, registered runners will get blue bracelets that read "Run Now - Boston 4/15/13" in memory of the tragic attacks on the Boston Marathon last week.

Security for Saturday's race has been heightened with law enforcement present along the entire 26.2 mile route from West End to LP Field. Additional security will monitor the Gear Check vehicles that store and transport gear bags, which will be clear this year. Everyone will be subject to random bag checks on race day at the Health and Fitness Expo.

Meanwhile, the Postal Service is taking extra steps to ensure runners' safety at the County Music Marathon this weekend. All blue mailboxes along the race route will be blocked.

Metro Police have also created a special race-day number to report anything suspicious. The number is (615) 880-1515.

Runners can pick up their packets at the Health and Fitness Expo, which runs until 7 p.m. Friday at the convention center in downtown Nashville. The public is also invited to attend. Anyone who wants to run but hasn't registered can do so at the Expo.

NewsChannel 5 will have live coverage on air and online from start to finish Saturday. We will have live reports along the route starting at 6 a.m. on NewsChannel 5 This Morning.
