Suspect Identified In Deadly Murfreesboro Shooting

Posted: Updated:

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Murfreesboro Police have identified a suspect in a deadly weekend shooting of a woman at a home where a man shot and killed himself a day earlier.

The shooting happened just before 1 p.m. Sunday in the 2500 block of Gold Valley Drive.

The female victim, who was identified as 30-year-old Tangenika Wardlow, was transported to Middle Tennessee Medical Center where she died from her injuries.

Around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, police said 33-year-old Reginald Hughes shot and killed himself at the same location.

Police said two children were home at the time of the shooting. They are both in the care of the Department of Children's Services.

Detectives have identified a suspect in Wardlow's shooting, but have not released any names.

Investigators believe the suspect may have fled the state, which was why the U.S. Marshals were involved in the case.

Authorities said one of Hughes' ex-girlfriends harassed Wardlow on social media hours before she was killed.

Authorities believe Hughes' suicide and her murder may be connected.
