Flash Flooding Hits La Vergne, Homes Evacuated

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Flash Flood warnings hit La Vergne hard Saturday.  Work crews battled a blocked storm drain off Old Nashville Highway, causing flood waters to rise on the road.

Crews couldn't get the drain unblocked, so they had to close the flooded road overnight.

The city of La Vergne said two families had to evacuate their homes because of the flooding, and City Hall even had to open up to help them out.  Others who say they're used to the flooding decided to stay put.

"We just sit in the house and relax because there isn't anything you can do," said Kim Hyatt.  "I was supposed to take a bunch of trash up, but I can't do anything:  I'm stuck!"

The city closed down its assistance at City Hall Saturday afternoon because everyone impacted by the flooding had been helped.
