East Tennessee State Hires Ezell Away From Belmont

Posted: Updated:

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) - East Tennessee State is hiring Belmont's Brittney Ezell as its new women's basketball coach.

The school has scheduled a Friday news conference to announce the move, which awaits approval from the Tennessee Board of Regents.

Ezell went 41-52 in three years at Belmont, including an 18-14 record this year that included a Women's Basketball Invitational appearance. Belmont led the Ohio Valley Conference in scoring defense and ranked 19th nationally in field-goal percentage defense this year.

Ezell, a former basketball and softball player at Alabama, also coached at Division II program Montevallo and Northwest Florida State College. During her playing career, Ezell was a 4-year starting point guard who helped Alabama reach four straight regional semifinals from 1995-98.

Ezell replaces Karen Kemp, who retired after going 272-277 in 19 seasons.
