HUNTSVILLE, Ala.  - Convicted murderer Jacob Shaffer has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Shaffer pleaded guilty to capital murder in the 2009 death of Sidney Wade Dempsey. He had a brief trial on Monday, which is required by Alabama law for anyone who pleads guilty to capital murder.

A jury found Shaffer guilty on Monday after deliberating for about 30 minutes.

WHNT in Huntsville reported Shaffer waived his right to appeal, apologized and asked for forgiveness.

Shaffer told investigators he killed Dempsey to prepare himself for the beating and stabbing deaths in Tennessee.

Shaffer is already serving life in prison without parole for killing five people in Lincoln County, Tennessee. The other victims included his wife, father-in-law and brother-in-law. Shaffer pleaded guilty to those murders in July 2011.
