Equipment Malfunction Evacuates Purina Mills Plant

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Workers were evacuated early Wednesday morning after a malfunction at an animal food plant.

Officials said an elevator engine stopped overheated and created smoke inside the Purina Mills Inc. on Trousdale Drive around 4:30 a.m.

Nashville firefighters along with Hazmat were called out to make sure the engine on the elevator was cooled down. If it had not been, the district fire chief said an explosion could have occurred.

There was no serious damage to the plant. The workers were allowed back in around 5:30 a.m.
