Edgehill Named One Of The Most Dangerous Neighborhood In US

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The 8th Avenue South and Wedgwood area in Nashville has been named one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the country.

The crime analysis data site NeighborhoodSCOUT named the Edgehill area, surrounded by I-65 to 12th Avenue South and I-40 to Waverly, the 18th out of the 25 Most Dangerous Neighborhoods in the Country.

"No, those are not the statistics we get each month about our area. So, you just have to reassure our neighbors that this is a great place to live; safe place to live and that you can enjoy whatever festivities we have in the area," said Metro Council member Sandra Moore.

Moore said the list is ridiculous and that there is no way the ranking is accurate.

According to Metro Police Crime Analyst, there were 77 violent crimes in the slated area in 2012, which put the area's crime rate at 22.3, not 70.59 according to NeighborhoodScout and the chance of becoming a victim for the neighborhood that is actually 1:44, not 1:14.

"It just really is an unfair thing to do for those particular jurisdictions because each neighborhood, each city, each state has a lot of contributing factors to what their crime trends are," said Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Kristin Helm.

Helm said both the TBI and FBI discourage the ranking of cities or states when it comes to crime data.

There are more projects coming to the Edgehill area to help fight crime.

A Metro Police precinct is planned for the area with a completion date expected around late 2014.
