FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Police in Franklin said two men swallowed nearly $5,000 worth of heroin in an apparent attempt to hide it from officers during a traffic stop.

A tip led officers to conduct surveillance on Monday morning in the parking lot of Cool Springs business. When they noticed two men acting suspiciously, they attempted to stop the men as they left the lot but they did not immediately pull over.

The men pulled over on Moores and Mallory Lanes, and officers took 20-year-old Christian Ivan Barrios Serrano and 32-year-old Mauricio Chavez Angel into custody after finding evidence of a drug transaction.

During an interview at Police headquarters, officers became concerned that the men had swallowed heroin in an attempt to hide it from officers who pulled them over. They were taken to Williamson County Medical Center, where more than 50 balloons of heroin were recovered.

Police also recovered $2,300 in cash.

Serrano and Angel were taken to the Williamson County jail. Both are due in court on May 9.
