East Nashville Celebrates Cinco de Mayo In Unique Style

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Residents of East Nashville found a fun and safe way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. They held the first Cinco de Bike-O, which organizers hope will become an annual event.

The celebration at the East-Centric Pavilion on Fatherland Street had an environmental slant. People in the area were encouraged to ride their bike to the event. Participants got to enjoy a free drink and great music. Organizers said they hope this will help Nashville become a more bike-friendly city.

"Part of our focus was to show people how easy it would be to get to this side of town from wherever they were," said Katrina Hartwig. "So we actually organized bike rides from all over the city to meet at a certain time and come over here so that they'd see a bike route they weren't familiar with before."

Around 1,500 people showed up to be part of the event.
