NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Cinco de Mayo holiday prompted law enforcement to step up patrols to keep the area's roadways safe. The Tennessee Highway Patrol increased it's efforts to catch drunk drivers with saturation patrols across the area, and sobriety checkpoints in other parts of the state.

Despite increased patrols, alcohol was believed to be a factor in a number of local crashes.

That included a single car crash in Hendersonville early Saturday morning that killed two men. On Sunday morning, another single vehicle crash on 21st Avenue at Broadway killed another man -- Terry Lee Ford of Arbor Creek Way.

"We want drivers to know we are out there, we want them to have fun but we want them to get home safely," said Sgt. Chad Smith with the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

In addition to the DUI enforcement patrols, The THP was also checking for people not wearing their seatbelts.
