NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Fans will get to see an extra race at Saturday's Iroquois Steeplechase, officials announced Tuesday.

Because of the growing number of entries, organizers said they will split the Maiden race into two races, Division 1 and 2, with nine horses each. There will be purse winners in both races.

The maiden race is an event for horses who have never won a race with jumps before.

In all, there will be eight races this year. Extra security is also planned.

Gates open at 8 a.m. Saturday with the first race at 1 p.m. General admission tickets are $15 with free admission for children under 12 .

The 72nd annual race, held yearly on the second Saturday in May at Percy Warner Park, is the premier spring race in American steeplechasing. Proceeds from the event benefit Monroe Carell Junior Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. More than 25,000 spectators usually attend.
