MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - A Middle Tennessee State University alumnus is continuing a legacy of giving even after his death.

Jeff Whorley made the $2.5 million donation from the estate of his uncle Dr. James Buchanan, who passed away in January at age 93.

The Nobel Prize winning economist graduated from the school in 1940.

The money will go towards the Buchanan Fellowship, which provides scholarships to MTSU's brightest honor students.

"We want James Buchanan to be appreciated all around the world and most appreciated at MTSU," Whorley said.

Dr. Buchanan's Nobel Prize and Bronze Star were also donated. They will be displayed at the university.
