SMITHLAND, Ky. (AP) - A school bus carrying a high school sports team has overturned on U.S. 60 in far western Kentucky, reportedly injuring more than 20 students.

McCracken County Sheriff Jon Hayden said 26 people were on board the bus, and one was airlifted from the scene. Hayden said the rest of the injured were transported to local hospitals.

The Paducah Sun reported the bus was transporting a softball team from Union County for a game. Police are diverting traffic as far back as four miles from the scene on U.S. 60.

Hayden said the bus rolled over about three miles east of Smithland in Livingston County.

Injured students from the scene are being taken to Baptist Health Paducah and Lourdes Hospital.
