Rifle Stolen From Doughboy Statue In Clarksville

Posted: Updated:

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Police want to figure out who damaged a statue in Clarksville over the weekend.

On Saturday, Clarksville Police received a complaint that the Doughboy Statue on Legion Street had been damaged. The rifle was stolen sometime during the night.

The marble statue sits in front of the Clarksville Transit System terminal.

In November 2010, the rifle was stolen from the statue that honors World War I soldiers. A man later returned the rifle, and told police he accidentally broke off the bronze rifle when he was looking at it to see if it was real.

It cost $5,000 to repair.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (931) 645-TIPS (8477).
