SMITHVILLE, Tenn. – A 40-year-old woman was killed after police said a vehicle plunged into Center Hill Lake in DeKalb County.

Officials said there were three people were inside the SUV when it went down the boat ramp and into the lake at the Johnson Chapel Recreation Area around 1 p.m. Monday.

Officials from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office and Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency responded to the scene. Police said they were able to rescue two adults, but the third, Nancy Rudolph of Putnam County, was unable to get out of the vehicle.

DeKalb EMS was on the scene and started CPR on Rudolph. She was taken to DeKalb Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The other two adults who were rescued, were treated on the scene, but refused medical treatment.

Officials said the water was 10 to 15 feet deep where the vehicle was submerged.

The investigation is ongoing.
