OAK GROVE, Ky. – Christopher Kelley said he owns a gun for protection, but had never shot anyone until Monday.

"Just lucky I guess I had it with me," a sleep deprived Kelley said. "You get it and you always hope you don't have to use it."

A little after midnight he said he and his brother were sleeping on a living room sofa when he heard someone come through the front door.

It was so dark he first thought the visitor was there for his roommate, but then realized it was a home invasion.

"I turn around and I see the gun and I see the mask. He started raising his arm and I shot," Kelley said.

In seconds, Kelley fired five rounds before the intruder could ever pull his trigger. Two bullets went through walls and into the ceiling, while the other three stopped the danger.

"When he hit the ground before he dropped, his gun he pointed at me again. I told him to drop it. That's when he dropped it," Kelley described.  "If I didn't have a pistol myself we probably would have been in a rough situation, you know."

Kelley said the wounded, but unarmed man, finally made it outside and into a getaway car with two other men.

Instead of being angry, he said after all the commotion was over they started praying for the man to recover.

"I hope he makes it. I really do," Kelley said. "You shouldn't wish that on anybody. He might have been doing the wrong thing, but I've made mistakes in my life. Everybody has."

Kelley said the men driving the getaway car drove the intruder to the hospital.

Oak Grove Police have not released the name or condition of the suspect.
