Consumers Having Trouble Contacting Craigslist Seller

LEBANON, Tenn. - Rory Linton needed a washer and dryer for his son's college home and found a set on Craigslist. When the washer did not work, his troubles had just started.

"The washer worked for about a half of a cycle and stopped completely," Linton said.

Linton's wife contacted Josh Ricketts, the Lebanon man who sold her the appliance. She said Ricketts answered at first, but then hung up on her. She called from a second phone and he answered again.

"He said he would refund it by Friday, my wife calls and again, we get no answers," according to Linton.

Linton went on to Craigslist and searched for Ricketts' phone number. Several warnings about him were posted on the web site.

NewsChannel 5 went to the location where the Lintons purchased the washing machine. A worker at the property said Ricketts was no longer allowed on the premises.

That worker said many people had stopped and complained about appliances they purchased from him.

"Really, I want to tell them, ma'am you might as well write that off, because you're not the first and as many stories as I've heard about him, you're not going to get your money back," according to the worker.

NewsChannel 5 called two numbers to look for Ricketts. The first number went to voice mail. A man, claiming to be Ricketts' father, answered the second number. He said his son was in jail and he was not associated with him, or his son's appliance sales.

Several people had similar stories to Linton's trouble with the washing machine his family purchased. They also said they could not get restitution from Ricketts for their purchase.
