NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A mission to bring shoes to people in need around the world has sparked fierce competition nationwide.

For the first time, a contestant from the mid-state has been holding the lead in the Soles4Souls challenge, but Wednesday Soles4Souls surprised Tracy Swack to inform her she was the winner of this challenge.

The Cookeville resident gathered 75,000 pounds of shoes and clothing for months in the Travel4Soles Challenge.

Organizers of the Travel4Soles challenge said this competition has brought in more shoes and clothes than any of the challenges before, with more than 130,000 pounds in donations, and they say the mid-state played a huge role.

"It started out as something for my dad," said Swack.

Before she knew she had won, Swack said the outcome didn't make a difference in how she felt.

"Nobody can say you aren't a winner if you collected 75,000 pounds of shoes or clothes that don't have any that's a win as far as I'm concerned that's all that really matters," said Swack.

Now, that Tracy Swack is officially the winner of this challenge, she will be leaving for Haiti in late June.

Soles4Souls has warehouses around the United States, but their world headquarters is based in Nashville.
