BLUFF CITY, Tenn. (AP) - Bluff City's Sullivan East High School has won top prize in Tennessee's first-ever "Battle of the Belt" competition to increase seat belt usage.

High schools participating in the Battle of the Belt held unannounced seat belt checks. They also created educational campaigns aimed at achieving 100 percent seat belt use. Teams were judged on the percentage increase of seat belt use at their school and on their campaigns.

The competition was sponsored by the state Health Department. According to the department, more than 624,000 Tennessee licensed drivers between the ages of 15 and 24 were involved in traffic crashes in 2012.
