8-Year-Old Boy Found Safe In Smyrna; Father In Custody

Posted: Updated:

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – An 8-year-old boy taken by his father after assaulting his mother was found safe in Smyrna on Monday morning.

Smyrna Police found Gabriel Swaney and his father, 30-year-old Michael Swaney, at a relative's home. Michael Swaney was taken into custody without incident.

An AMBER Alert had been issued by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation early Monday morning after Michael Swaney took Gabriel following an argument with the child's mother, who police said Swaney assaulted with a switch blade knife on Sunday.

The mother was treated and released from a local hospital.

Police had initially said Michael Swaney was armed with a rifle, a handgun, and the switch blade knife, but they did not find any weapons on him when he was taken into custody.

Police had issued aggravated domestic assault warrants for Swaney.
