FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. - Families and friends met loved ones Tuesday at Fort Campbell where more than 200 soldiers returned to the post on the Kentucky-Tennessee border from Afghanistan.

About 230 soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division's 3rd Brigade Combat Team, known as the "Rakkasans," arrived home Tuesday night. Family and friends waited for the soldiers, who had been deployed for nine months, in the intense downpour and storms.

A plane carrying nearly 90 members of the unit returned Sunday night, and another 170 members came home April 26.

On Wednesday, about 100 members of the 101st Airborne's 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, or the "Wings of Destiny," will complete the unit's return, and brigade commander Col. Paul Bontrager, will also be welcomed back.
